My Keto Journey
Jan 3, 2024
My personal nutrition strategy has evolved immensely in the past year, and my coaching has too. The nutrition education, advice and support that I provide has shifted away from the typical, “eat less, move more.” There's a better, healthier way..
In 2023 I followed a carnivore style of eating: Beef, Butter, Bacon and Eggs, all day baby! And it has done me well.
Carnivore is a variation of the clinically proven ketogenic diet, a high fat and very low carbohydrate intake nutrition strategy. This allows my body to rely on fat for energy, a more efficient energy source versus glucose (sugar).
Ketosis enabled true healing in my body.
Prior to last year, I suffered from crippling depression that I always knew I could address with my nutrition and lifestyle behaviors, rather than meds. I was constantly uncomfortable in my gut, having a hard time getting out of bed in the mornings, getting migraines or headaches every single day, my hormones were out of wack, and my systemic inflammation was through the roof. Some of these symptoms didn't even seem abnormal to me until they cleared up.
I sent my depression into remission, cleared my brain fog, balanced my hormones, healed my gut (no more diarrhea!... tmi?), hit multiple personal records in my major lifts including back squat and strict press, overcame hitting the snooze button in the mornings, kicked my sugar addiction, and easily gave up alcohol.
These results are not unique to me. I’ve watched my friends, family and clients overcome their symptoms of metabolic dysfunction, too. Men and women of all different ages and backgrounds elevate their health and therefore their overall life experience on keto!
Nutrition is the foundation for everything you want to do with your mind and body.
We've all heard the cliche : you are what you eat. Well, it's true.
So, here's the best starter advice I can give you:
Prioritize protein: Add more fatty red meat to your regular intake (and NO it doesn't cause cancer, hypertension, or any other negative health effect.)
Focus on healthy animal fats: Remove ALL processed seed oils for your regular intake (seed oils include canola, vegetable, rapeseed, soybean, palm) and only consume moderate amounts of coconut, olive and avocado oils.
Control carbohydrates: low-carb means something different to everyone. Work to slowly decrease the amount of carbohydrates in your regular intake.
Cook your meals at home.
If you can begin to implement these guidelines you, too, will begin your healing process.
I’m excited to continue to share the benefits of keto and optimal nutrition with you. Thank you for reading!
